Life is unpredictable!
The whole world was touched by this truth in one way or another when Covid hit all of humanity.
It exposed how vulnerable and ill-prepared most of the families were. There were heart breaks and so much grief around. In times of such uncertainty, some lost the bread-winner of the family. At Fin@Work, we were drawn into some of these situations and realized that the finances were all over the place. The rest of the family had little clue of ‘what, where and how much’ of the investments, if any.
These were different and difficult conversations than our regular client conversations. It got us thinking that how everything would have been simpler if everything was listed down at one place and if the family was involved in the process. It also made us value the Fin@Work approach a lot more – we always encourage involving family members right from client onboarding to annual follow up meetings and have a platform that consolidates all the finances in one place.
Estate Planning is a subject that doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves.
Well, nobody in their younger (middle-aged) days likes to think that they would die and that death is indeed unpredictable. People are so busy conquering the world. But it’s important to plan for the worst, especially if you have dependents.
If you are reading this, we urge you to have a consolidated list of your assets/liabilities/insurances/loans/employment benefits. Please specify nominee every time you make a new investment. Keep your family updated on the finances. Do write a WILL, it will help your family a whole lot when you are not there.
